Punjab to become India’s top industrial State, preferred global investment destination: Capt
The Chief Minister lauded the progress in creating an investment-friendly eco-system, facilitating 2,661 investment proposals worth Rs 86,819 crore, received till May 2021, with an employment potential of 3,23,260.
“The industrial sector in the state had seen a massive growth since the Congress government took over in March 2017. The new industry-friendly policies, initiated by the government which had promoted ease of business, had attracted investor confidence,” he said, pointing out that despite the sluggishness in the economy due to the COVID crisis, the state had received a whopping 267 investment proposals worth Rs 2,277 crore in May 2021.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the efforts of Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion (PBIP) in initiating several path-breaking steps to ensure prompt clearances to prospective investors or entrepreneurs to set up their industrial units. “The recent decision to set up the District Bureau of Industry and Investment Promotion (DBIIP) in each district would further promote ease of doing business in the state. This will facilitate timely grant or issuance of clearances, approvals, or NOCs, applied through the Invest Punjab Business First portal,” he added.
The state Principal Secretary (Investment Promotion) Alok Shekhar said that out of Rs 2,277 crore worth of proposals received in the month of May 2021, Rs 1,206 crore were related to key projects in Real Estate, Housing and Infrastructure, Tourism and Hospitality, Healthcare, Manufacturing and Agri, Food Processing and Beverages.

World Malala Day – 12th July
The United Nations has declared 12th July as World Malala Day to honour the younger activist, Malala Yousafzai. Malala Day is commemorated, the birthday of Malala Yousafzai, to honour girls and children’s rights around the world. On October 9, 2012, Malala was once shot in the head by Taliban gunmen after she publicly advocated for the education of girls. Despite the attack, Malala soon lowered back to the public eye, fiercer in her views than before and persevered in her advocacy for gender rights. She established the Malala Fund, a non-profit organization to help younger ladies go to school and also co-authored a e-book titled “I Am Malala”, a global bestseller.
In 2012, she was awarded the first-ever National Youth Peace Prize with the aid of the Pakistan government.
In 2014, at age 17, She grew to be the youngest-ever recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her efforts for children’s rights which had begun even before she was shot.
The UN has declared her as “the most well-known teenager in the world” in its Decade in Review document in late 2019.

First LNG Facility Plant of India
The Union Minister inaugurated India’s first LNG facility in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Baidyanath Ayurvedic Group (private sector) has established the country’s first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility plant on Kamptee Road, near the Nagpur-Jabalpur Highway.
About Liquified Natural Gas (LNG):
♦ LNG is a clear, colourless, non-toxic liquid formed by cooling natural gas to -162oC (-260oF).
♦ The cooling process reduces the volume of the gas by 600 times, making storage and shipping easier and safer.LNG will not burn when it is liquid.
♦ When LNG arrives at its destination, it is converted back into a gas at regasification plants.
♦ It is then piped to homes, businesses, and industries to be burned for heat or electricity generation.
♦ LNG is also becoming a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly transportation fuel, particularly for shipping and heavy-duty road transport.
♦ It has the potential to reduce logistics costs while also creating numerous job opportunities.
♦ LNG is the fuel of the future, and it will transform the transportation industry.
Upstream of Polavaram Dam
A breach in the Godavari bund, located upstream of the Polavaram dam in Andhra Pradesh, was caused by increased inflows and stagnant backwaters.
About the Polavaram Irrigation Project:
♦ It is a multi-purpose irrigation project located in Andhra Pradesh near Polavaram village on the Godavari River.
♦ Once completed, it will provide irrigation benefits, generate hydroelectric power, and provide drinking water.
♦ It will make an inter-basin transfer to the Krishna river basin via its Right canal.
♦ Indirect benefits include the advancement of pisciculture (fish breeding and rearing), tourism, and urbanisation.
♦ In 2014, the union government designated the project as a national project (under Section-90 of Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014).
The Godavari River flows from Trimbakeshwar near Nasik in Maharashtra to the Bay of Bengal.
♦ Drainage Basin: Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, as well as smaller portions of Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Puducherry.
♦ Tributaries includes: Pravara, Purna, Wardha, Manjra, Wainganga, Penganga, Pranhita, Indravati, Maner, and the Sabri.
