Punjab restricts oxygen supply to industrial units

To ensure uninterrupted supply of medical oxygen to hospitals for treating critically ill Covid-19 patients, the Punjab government has imposed restrictions on supply of oxygen to industrial units.

If the current trend of rapid rise in Covid-19 cases continue, the demand for medical oxygen is projected to touch 250 metric tonne (MTs) by mid of October, which at present is about 120 MT. About 140MT of oxygen is supplied by three units located in — Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand — while 80MT is manufactured by seven registered units in Punjab.

The bulk manufacturers are also supplying oxygen to industrial units, thus reducing the availability of medical oxygen to healthcare institutions.
