Punjab , Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar on Sunday urged the states farmers to adopt fish farming as auxiliary occupation of the <a href="https://exam.pscnotes.com/Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture to increase their income.

Bhulllar, on the eve of World Fisheries Day, said that the Government was providing a 40 percent subsidy for adopting fish farming, and the farmers should derive maximum benefit of the scheme.

Extending greetings to the fish and shrimp farmers, he reiterated that the Punjab Government was committed to provide all possible assistance for adopting fish farming as a profession. The State Government is making continuous progress in the field of FisheriesSpecial emphasis is being laid on development of Infrastructure for fish farming and increasing fish production in the state, he added.

He informed that a total 43,691 acres in Punjab is under fisheries, from where 1,89,647 tonnes of fishes are being produced. Shrimp farming is being done in zero-income land affected by waterlogging and saline water in Punjab, which proved to be successful in increasing the income of the farmers. At present, a total area of 1200 acres is under shrimp cultivation.

The Minister said that 15 government fish seed farms are operational in Punjab to provide quality fingerling to the farmers, while new government fish seed farm was being developed at Killianwali village in Fazilka district. Besides, a wholesale-cum-retail government fish market is operational at Ludhiana for clean Marketing of fish and another new fish market is under construction at Patiala, which will be operational soon.

TheUnion Home Ministryhas said resolute implementation of the national policy and action plan led to a 55 per cent reduction in violent incidents perpetrated by theNaxalsand 63 per cent indeathsover a period of eight years.

According to the annual report 2021-22 of theMinistry of Home Affairs, there has been an overall 55 per cent reduction in violent incidents (from 1,136 to 509) and 63 per cent reduction (397 to 147) inLeft Wing Extremism(LWE) related deaths in 2021 as compared to 2013.

In comparison to 2020, the year 2021 saw a decline of 24 per cent (665 to 509) in incidents of violence and 20 per cent (183 to 147) in the resultant deaths, the report said.

Owing to the improved LWE scenario, the list of LWE affected districts has been revised twice in the last three years. The number of LWE affected districts was reduced to 90 in April 2018 and then to 70 in July 2021.

In 2021, Chhattisgarh (255 incidents and 101 deaths) remains the worst affected state followed by Jharkhand (130 incidents and 26 deaths), Odisha (32 incidents and three deaths), Maharashtra (31 incidents and six deaths) and Bihar (26 incidents and seven deaths).

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has agreed in principle to admit East Timor as the groups 11th member.
